Domestic Violence
Family Health Center conforms to the Genesys Regional Medical Center Domestic Violence Policy listed below which requires reporting of all domestic violence cases.
The physician or office staff must report to the local law enforcement agency in the location where the alleged abuse occurred. This is mandatory and completion of the Domestic Violence Reporting Form must be done.

Policy Statement
Hospital personnel caring for or treating patients who have been victims of
domestic violence will provide an assessment, intervention and referral to the
appropriate community agencies, in accordance with Michigan Penal Code Act 328
of 1931.
Purpose of Policy
Genesys Regional Medical Center shall provide assistance in obtaining emergency
service and medical treatment for individuals who are victims of domestic
violence and, as outlined by law, report these incidents appropriately for
follow-up.
Policy Detail
DEFINITION:
A. Victim: Anyone who has been physically or sexually abused by an
"intimate partner" or former "intimate partner". Anyone who
has been physically or sexually abused by other relatives in the same household,
e.g. sibling to sibling violence.
B. Intimate Partner: A spouse, former spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend, or an
individual who has a child in common with the victim.
C. Violent injuries or other injury inflicted by a gun, knife, or other deadly
weapon, or by other means of violence. Other means of violence may include, but
is not limited to, beating, biting, strongly hitting, kicking, punching and/or
slapping.
Note:
Refer to individual departmental protocols, i.e. Emergency Services, Social
Work, Nursing for specific direction.
GRMC will provide Domestic Violence information to patients and staff.
